Free Group Breathwork
Registration strongly encouraged!
Join us for a group session of gentle, connected breathing and breath holds with a mix of energizing and relaxing music. Experience the power of activated breath energy for a cleansing and clearing feeling. Learn a variety of supportive breathing techniques you can use to manage and clear stress in your daily life. All in a supportive community!
Group sessions are a great way to set the tone for your week, and to maintain momentum between one-on-one sessions. You can also learn this technique to safely use at home on your own. Best of all, it’s a chance to share the beauty of breathwork in community.
I offer guided group breathwork sessions on (most) first and third Sundays of each month from 6-7:30 in Ann Arbor. We also meet on (most) fourth Sundays of each month from 6-7:30 in Ypsilanti.
We use a gentler pace of connected nasal breathing, supported by guidance and music, to activate the energy body at a milder level compared to my one-on-one technique. We intersperse gentle connected breathing with breath holds (letting out the breath and suspending for a short time) to get a stronger sensation of the activated breath and to experience the deep peace of suspension. Sometimes emotions surface, most often gentle ones and positive emotions like joy, gratitude, and peace. Physical experiences can include feeling tingles or vibrations, feeling lighter or heavier, seeing colorful lights, or hearing sounds like rushing water. The overall experience will be a little different for everyone, but is often beautifully refreshing, opening, and even inspiring.
Group breathwork is offered freely, with donations gladly accepted. Adults 18 and older are eligible. If you have any of the following conditions, please call or email me first to discuss if group breathwork is right for you: pregnancy, recent surgeries, recent fractures, recent head injuries, cardiac conditions, emphysema, asthma, severe hypertension, epilepsy, glaucoma or retinal detachment, osteoporosis, or serious mental illness.
At your first session, I’ll have some forms for you to complete, so please try to arrive a few minutes early, if possible.
If you currently have an infectious airborne disease (e.g., flu, cold, COVID-19, etc.), please wait until you’re fully recovered and join us at a later date. Please be aware that you will be in an enclosed space breathing with others, and so there will be some risk of COVID transmission. If risks related to COVID prevent you from attending a group session, please reach out to me about one-on-one sessions, or to see if we can find a group or location where we can further mitigate COVID transmission risks.
Ann Arbor
First and Third Sundays
The good folks at Huron Valley Aikikai in Ann Arbor share their friendly dojo space with us on (most) first and third Sundays.
The dojo is located on Ann Arbor’s west side at 1904 Federal Blvd. at the intersection with Stadium Blvd. (behind Kolossos printing and near the post office and Big George’s). There is a small parking lot, and a big “AIKIDO” sign. The dojo floor is covered with mats for padding. Please bring your own BLANKETS to stay warm and comfortable clothing for lying down and breathing. If you require extra props for physical support like pillows, bolsters, backjack chair, etc., please bring what you need. I look forward to seeing you there!
Ypsilanti
Fourth Sundays
The good people at the Dzanc House Gallery in Ypsilanti share their space with us on fourth Sundays.
Dzanc House is located at 402 S. Huron St. in Ypsilanti at the intersection with Buffalo. There is street parking on Buffalo, and the gallery entrance is on Huron. The gallery floor is wooden, so please bring any necessary padding (e.g., yoga mat, camping pad, stack of blankets), as well as any extra props you’d like for physical support like pillows, bolsters, etc. I look forward to seeing you in Ypsi!

If you have attended one or more group sessions and learned the technique, you can try it at home on your own. You can use the playlists below, or experiment with your playlist or album. Try to complete the full playlist or, if using your own music without the intermittent breath holds, try to continue for 90 minutes to make sure you’ve reached completion of the breath’s natural energy cycle.
To have a good experience when breathing on your own, be sure to watch for signs of too much intensity: cramping in the hands, feet, or face; pains in the body; or strong emotion. In those cases, back off by slowing your connected breathing, reducing the depth of your breathing, returning to ordinary breathing for a while, and shaking off some excess energy by moving your body.
In each of these Spotify playlists, the first track is for coherent breathing, the middle tracks are for alternating conscious connected breathing through the nose and breath holds of no more than one minute, and the final track is for rest and integration. Enjoy!
